After Surgery Instructions
You should have received full post-operative instructions specific to your operation along with any medications you need before you left the hospital but it never hurts to reinforce things.
The instructions for individual operations are attached below so you can print them off if you want to. If you any queries call our nurse or drop her an email at nurse@myentspecialist.com.au
- Don’t try and do too much too soon. Every person is different and so is every operation. Generally speaking it will be important to get some rest after your surgery. Avoid heavy lifting and strenuous exercise for at least 2 weeks after surgery. Try and get good sleep for at least 8 hours per night.
- Don’t take to your Bed. Rest is important but so is gentle exercise. After surgery light walking is best as it keeps your muscles active and helps to prevent clots. Gentle stretching exercises are also great.
- Do Take Your Medications as Instructed. It is important that you take any medicines prescribed.
- Do keep nourished and hydrated. It is important to eat small meals often and regularly. Drink plenty of fluids. Avoid alcohol and smoking until you are fully recovered as they can slow your recovery and increase your risk of complications.
- Don’t go back to work too soon. You will need to rest and recover. Make sure that work knows you have had surgery and that you will need some time off. We will provide you with any Medical Certificates you need.
- Don’t Drive before you’re ready. It is important that you are fully recovered and pain free before you start driving. If you are in any doubt please ask us for advice.
- Do book a post-operative appointment. Generally you will receive a phone call form our nurse the day after your discharge. They will book your follow up appointment and can answer any questions you may have.
